Positive Affirmations to Help you Deal with Chronic Pain and Illness
You’ve heard about the power of positive thinking, right? Sometimes that’s easier said than done — but research suggests that those dealing with chronic pain can benefit by using positive affirmations to cope. Keep this list handy and make it a point to think positive every day!
 
Chronic Pain
When you’re dealing with a chronic illness such as rheumatoid arthritis, COPD, diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and a plethora of other conditions, each day can be a struggle.  In addition to working with your physician to manage pain, be sure to use these positive affirmations to help you through.
 
“Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.” ~ Joseph Campbell Some days may be more difficult than others, but seek out the joy in your life and focus on that. Consider keeping a daily journal of the top three things (or more!) that bring you joy each day.
 
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” ~ Bob Marley Music has been shown to improve mood and help manage pain, so personalize your own playlist and listen to it often.
 
"Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine." ~ Lord Byron The more you laugh, the more laughter will enter your life. And when you’re laughing, you’re not thinking about the pain, right?
 
"Pain is inevitable, but misery is optional. We cannot avoid pain, but we can avoid joy." ~ Tim Hansel Choose to surround yourself with joy and dwell instead on the good things instead of succumbing to being miserable.

When you’re feeling hopeless
On those days when the pain takes over, it’s easy to lose hope — but having hope is what keeps you going, so be sure to remember these affirmations when you’re at a low point.

Talk to loved ones, seek out a therapist, join online forums and consider other means to help manage your pain (perhaps a power wheelchair or mobility scooter to help regain your independence).

“In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.” ~ Dalai Lama Wise words! Line your thinking with positive thoughts and envision yourself on a positive journey by whatever means possible.
 
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” ~ Helen Keller The brightness is there; you just have to place yourself accordingly to be able to see it.
 
“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results.” ~ Willie Nelson The glass can either be half empty or half full. It’s rather uncanny how if you train yourself to be accustomed to thinking positive how much easier it will be to see the good stuff.

When you’re feeling inadequate
We all have days when we’re feeling down on ourselves, but it’s important to replace those thoughts with positive, uplifting ideas.
