Why the Name Hoveround For Power Wheelchairs?
Thanks to the popularity of the Hoveround power wheelchair commercials, many people are familiar with the company of the same name. Sometimes referred to as Hoverround, Hovaround, Huveround or Hover Round – the Hoveround power wheelchair has established a reputation within the industry as the leading power wheelchair on the mobility products market.
The correct spelling of both the company and its products is Hoveround. It refers to the line of power wheelchairs that are designed, manufactured and serviced by the Hoveround Corporation. Today, some customers refer to their power wheelchairs as Hoverounds too, though the company and the “Hoveround” product name is most commonly associated with its power wheelchairs.

Inventor and company president Tom Kruse named the power wheelchair Hoveround because the chair’s round design enabled it to literally turn on itself. Other power wheelchairs have a square design that makes it difficult to navigate through narrower hallways or entry ways. The Hoveround round design makes our wheelchairs look different from other power wheelchairs, but there are other notable differences. Hoveround is the only power wheelchair company to design, manufacture and service Hoverounds. One of the biggest differences is in Hoveround’s service.
