Before You Go
1. Secure your Hoveround
Regardless of the method you choose to transport your electric wheelchair, it is important to safely secure the electric wheelchair in the vehicle. This can be accomplished with tie-downs or straps that can be installed in your vehicle. Our Hoveround Aftermarket Specialists can provide full purchase information and recommendations. Just call 1.800.701.3021.
2. Check your Hoveround
We have over 150 stocked service vans throughout the United States, so rest assured that if you ever have a problem with your power chair while you are traveling, you will receive Hoveround's superior service in almost any location. Still for your safety and convenience, it is a good idea to make sure your power chair is in good condition before a long trip. Check your Owner’s Manual for a daily and weekly maintenance checklist. We also recommend an annual check-up for your Hoveround to ensure it’s in good shape.
3. Remember your Batteries & Charger
Don’t forget to take your battery charger with you when traveling. Fully-charged electric wheelchair batteries will power your electric wheel chair for several hours of use. To prolong the life of your battery and ensure your power chair is charged for hours of use, charge your power chair batteries at the end of each day’s use or at least once every two weeks when the motorized power chair is not in use. The older the batteries are, the quicker they will run down and need charging. Also, when you are traveling to another country, take the proper plug adapter so you can use your battery charger.
4. Bring Travel Accessories
Hoveround electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be equipped with many accessories that allow you to travel with ease. We offer holders for walkers, canes, crutches and oxygen so you can easily attach and transport health equipment in your Hoveround electric wheelchair. For extra comfort and support, items such as cushions, padding, headrests, legrests, foodrests and straps can also be added. We also offer wheel chair covers for your electric wheelchair. Call our Hoveround Aftermarket Specialists at 1.800.701.3021 for complete purchase information on all of our travel accessories.
