Transporting Your Hoveround
One of the most obvious benefits of a Hoveround electric wheel chair or mobility scooter is the ability to resume daily activities in and around the home. But for many individuals, it’s the ability to resume activities outside their home that is the most dramatic benefit of owning a Hoveround. From day trips to extended vacations, Hoveround motorized wheelchairs and scooters work with a variety of transportation options so you can go almost anywhere you want, when you want.
Hoveround Power Chairs & Mobility Scooters for Outside Use
For strolls around your neighborhood or for travel within shorter distances such as one mile or less, your Hoveround power wheelchair is a great transportation method. For longer distance and outside environment traveling a Hoveround mobility scooter is best. A Hoveround mobility scooter is designed primarily for outdoor use so it is not as easy to operate indoors. A Hoveround electric wheel chair can be used both inside and outside.
Hoveround Transport Chair
For day trips, we offer the Hoveround Transport Chair. This is lightweight, manual wheelchair that is just 19 pounds and has a carrying capacity of 250 pounds. The Transport Chair also folds easily for compact storage. Call our Hoveround Aftermarket Specialists at 1.800.701.3021 for further details.
Transporting Your Hoveround Electric Wheelchair with a HoverLiftTM
Lifts are one of the quickest, easiest ways to transport your electric wheelchair or mobility scooter via your vehicle. We offer a line of Hoveround interior and exterior vehicle lifts designed to work specifically with your Hoveround model. All of our exterior lifts are weather-resistant, provide full access to a standard vehicle trunk and operate from either a toggle button or a hand-held remote. Also, you may choose to add the optional swing-away feature so you can pivot your HoverLiftTM away from your vehicle to access your back doors, lift gate or tail gate. We also offer protective covers for your Hoveround electric wheelchair or mobility scooter. Call our Hoveround Aftermarket Specialists at 1.800.701.3021 for further details.
Portable Wheelchair Ramps for Transport
You can also purchase portable wheelchair ramps specifically designed to maneuver your electric wheelchairs or mobility scooter into a vehicle. These wheelchair ramps are designed to be lightweight for easy transportation and hauling. Before purchasing a wheelchair ramp, consider the weight of the ramp as well as the level of difficulty when carrying, folding and storing the ramp. You should also select a ramp that is compatible with your vehicle and can be safely and securely attached to the vehicle's surface. It is important to compare the load capacity, length, slope and width of the ramp with your electric wheelchair to ensure that the ramp will support your electric wheel chair or mobility scooter. We offer a range of portable ramps; just call our Hoveround Aftermarket Specialists at 1.800.701.3021 for further details.
Transporting Your Power Chair or Scooter with a Trailer
Another option for transporting an electric wheelchair is attaching a trailer to your vehicle. A trailer will protect your power chair or mobility scooter from bad weather and can easily be removed and stored when not in use. Before purchasing a trailer, you must find out if your vehicle is equipped to tow a trailer.
Wheelchair Accessible Vans
Wheelchair vans and electric wheel chair accessible conversion vans are a great solution for those with limited mobility. These vehicles come equipped with side entry or rear entry wheelchair lifts and wheelchair ramps. Some wheelchair accessible vehicles offer a kneeling system that lowers the rear suspension and decreases the slope of the ramp. Other modifications such as, hand controls are designed to allow a wheelchair user to manipulate the brake and gas pedals using a specially designed lever mounted right below the steering wheel. For optimal comfort and safety, we recommend that you transfer into a vehicle seat and tie your power chair down with an approved tie-down system whenever you are traveling by car, van or bus.
